Hi All, I made a short video about my cookbook and am thrilled to finally share it with you. It tells both my story and the story of the book — and my normally camera-shy kids and husband even make a few cameos. ?

Many of you have asked if the book will contain new recipes. The answer is yes! There are 100 recipes in the book: 70 of them are brand new and 30 are favorites from the blog. I’ll be sharing sneak peeks at the table of contents in the coming weeks. Here’s the Breakfast & Brunch page…I hope it makes you hungry!

The book will be released April 3rd and is currently available for pre-order wherever books are sold, including the online retailers below. A huge thank you to all of you who have already pre-ordered. As I’ve mentioned before, pre-ordering is the absolute best thing you can do to support an author (read below to see why), so I’m incredibly grateful! ❤

Cook The Books

In case you missed my pre-order spiel a few months ago, pre-orders can literally make or break the success of a book. Here’s why:

  • When you pre-order a book, the sale counts towards the first week’s sales, which typically determine whether a book winds up on the New York Times bestseller list — a possibility that can be huge for any author, especially in terms of writing another book or building her career. (A gal can dream, right?)
  • A large number of pre-orders can prompt online vendors, like Amazon, to order more copies of the book before it’s released. Brick and mortar booksellers usually follow suit, and when these booksellers get excited about a book and order lots of copies, they’re more likely to promote it to their customers, placing it in visible locations on the shelves.
  • On the production side, if a publisher sees that a book has a lot of pre-orders, they’re likely to increase the print run to meet the anticipated demand. If they increase the print run, they typically increase their marketing efforts to sell all the copies. More marketing = more sales. So as you can see, it’s a snowball effect!

Thank you, as always, for your support. I can’t wait to get this book out into the world and share it with you!

xoxo,

  • Although I have more cookbooks than I ever use… (in fact, I published my own recipes a few years ago for myself and some friends) I LOVE your recipes and LOVE your blog, so I know that I will LOVE your cookbook, and will actually use it!! I vow to keep this book front and center in my kitchen all spring and summer, and to refer to it often. I have such faith in you Jen that I just pre-ordered TWO of your first cookbooks 🙂 Best of luck with your first one, and I have a hunch that your cookbook will end up featured at Costco – that’s a huge win, right? My boys are always telling me that I should enter cooking contests or write a book… I don’t know how you have the time but so glad that you do!!! Making your butternut squash and sweet potato soup right now. xoxo

    • Thank you SO much for your kind words and support with the cookbook. You definitely made me smile! 🙂

  • Jen,

As a subscriber I haven’t received anything in sometime. It was only my desire to make one of your recipes that I discovered that the book is ready. If pre-orders are so important then I would strongly encourage you to send something out announcing that your book is ready and encouraging pre-orders. On my way to Amazon as soon as I send this.

    • Hi Nancy, I’m sorry to hear you weren’t receiving the newsletter! I just checked in our system and your status was “unsubscribed” for some reason. I’ve fixed that so you should start receiving emails again. And thanks for your support with the cookbook!!

  • Just pre ordered your book! I am someone who has never had much confidence in my cooking abilities; finding your site and following your lead has encouraged me to not only try new things but to actually believe I can expand my thus far limited repertoire with your direction. All the best!

    • Thanks for your support of the cookbook. 🙂 (And glad to hear that you’ve gained more confidence in the kitchen as a result of using the recipes from the site!)

  • Just pre-ordered your cook book!!! I can’t wait to pour over the recipes in your book like I pour over your blog. I love how I can come and try a new recipe from your blog and time and time again they are not just good they are outstanding.

    • Thanks for your kind words, Amanda! Hope the cookbook becomes a much-used resource in your kitchen. ❤️

  • Congratulations on your new book! I just pre-ordered and have no doubt it’s going to be amazing! I can’t remember the last time I purchased a cookbook, but yours is a MUST HAVE! Wishing you great success in this and future ventures! Your recipes are always incredible. Love your website – it’s the first place I go to when looking for recipes. Best of luck!

    • Lori, I’m so flattered that you’ve purchased my book considering it sounds like you haven’t bought other cookbooks in quite some time. Thanks for your support!! 🙂

  • Looking to pre-order! Any other book recommendations that match your style of recipes to go with it? Would rather put some money towards another book than delivery fees if possible! Great site, Cheers

    • Hi Franck, Right now I’m loving Small Victories by Julia Turshen and Dinner by Melissa Clark. Thank you so much for supporting me!

  • Hi Jenn,
I pre- ordered your cook book as soon as you mentioned it, can’t wait to receive it! I, too, only use recipes from your blog, yours “always” turn out perfect and receive the most compliments from family & friends. I continue to share your blog site with others. In fact I’m going to pre-order several more books for my “young” friends who enjoy cooking.

    • Thanks so much for your support Ginny (and for spreading the Once Upon a Chef love)! 🙂

  • Have mine on preorder. Can’t wait!

    • Thanks Kathy!! 🙂

  • Hi Jenn! Like the rest of your fans, I eagerly await the release of your cookbook (which I pre-ordered on Amazon). I’ve made many of your recipes over the years and they are sensational! I’ve got Blueberry Coffee Cake all queued up to make for a get-together this weekend. : ) I own many cookbooks, but virtually stopped buying them because recipes are so available on the internet. But Jenn, YOUR book is a MUST-HAVE! I can’t wait to leaf through and cook from it! Enjoy this most special time of your life and career!

  • Hello Jenn:

Congratulations on your cookbook and wishing you much success! I placed my preorder, and can’t wait to get it. I make a lot of your recipes and almost every one is a hit! Thanks for all the great cooking tips included with your recipes. I am a great cook who is always looking to expand her gourmet knowledge. My husband and son call me the “queen of the kitchen” because I’m never afraid to try something new. Thank you for all the great tested recipes. I love them, and look forward to getting more of them in the future. Very best of luck to you!

    • Thank you, Fran! I hope you enjoy the book. 🙂

  • Hi, I enjoy your recipes quite a bit. I’ve made the silky mashed potato several times. I also made your perfect pecan pie and my son in law requested that I make it again for another dinner we had. I really enjoy your recipes (Boy Bait comes to mind … and how about that Chicken Piccata – yum). Anyway, I preordered your book back in December. Looking forward to its delivery.

    • Thanks, Daniel – I hope you enjoy the recipes in the cookbook just as much! 🙂

  • I love the video and just pre-ordered my copy! We all love your recipes and I am so excited to support you and try out the new recipes from the book! You do an excellent job of making recipes delicious and doable. Congrats on such an exciting achievement! 🙂

  • Just pre-ordered your cookbook! Thank you for all the work you put into your recipes on the blog and, I’m sure, the book. I had a recipe from a different cookbook fail in a major way for company today, but I switched gears and made your chicken marsala (my favorite), and the day was saved. <3

    • Thank you, Jackye! 💕

  • I have unsubscribed to all other cooking newsletters due to yours being the only one I go to. I will preorder the book soon.

    • Makes me feel very special to be the one blogger making it into your inbox!! Hope you enjoy the cookbook! 💕

  • I can’t wait for the book! I happened upon your website last year when I was searching for a bulgar wheat salad recipe (yours is amazing btw) and have been making your recipes ever since. I love them because they always work well and taste brilliant. And its so useful that you answer questions online too!

    • So glad you happened upon the site last year and glad to hear you’ve enjoyed the recipes – thanks for the kind words! ❤️

  • This is my new favorite recipe/cooking website. Love the chili, beef stew, apple tart, rice krispie bars, (hmm.. it is comfort food season). You just take everything up a notch:). Making stacked enchiladas tonight! and I just ordered your cookbook. Thanks for your wonderful recipes!

    • So glad you found the site and are enjoying the recipes, Cathy. Thanks for your support of the cookbook (and hope you enjoyed the stacked enchiladas)! 🙂

  • Hi Jenn, congratulation on your cookbook!! Like others have said, you are my ‘go to’ for recipes and inspiration…and I’m always so happy with the results. • Thanks so much for your kind words and for your support with the cookbook – I hope it’s a great addition to your kitchen! 🙂

  • As a 20-something guy who knows basically nothing about cooking, I say without hyperbole that this blog has helped me pull off *countless* date nights with my boyfriend. I suppose the jig will be up when he finds the cookbook in my kitchen, but I am so thrilled to be buying this book.

    Congrats to you!

    • Ha! That makes me so happy, Jake – glad you two are enjoying the recipes. 🙂

  • So excited and happy for you! Just pre-ordered your book ❤️

    • Thanks, Carrie!! 💕

  • I have to say – your comment in the video that you want your readers to say ‘this is better than eating out’ is spot on! I have made many, many recipes from your web site and those are exactly the words my husband says when we sit down to a Once Upon a Chef meal. I have basically stopped looking at any other web site because your recipes are so reliably delicious and easy. I am waiting to hear that you have your own cooking show!

I am so excited to get your cookbook – and gift it to as many home cooks as I can.

    • Thanks so much for your support, Elizabeth — your sweet comments made my day! ❤️

    • that is exactly the comments I get when I use your recipes “this is better than eating out!” Love it.

  • Hi Jenn – Having been a fan of your blog for almost 3 years, I was thrilled to see you had a cookbook. I’ve pre-ordered and can’t wait to get it.

I want you to know that I’ve tried probably 40 of your recipes, usually with guests (yes, not the best idea, but with your recipes…not a problem), and they have all been awesome. My guests LOVE the food I make from your blog, so I can’t wait to try the 70 new recipes out with the new cookbook. Thanks for creating food that is interesting as well as really, really good!

    • Thank you, Sue! I’m so happy to know you’re enjoying all the blog recipes. I hope you find many new favorites in the book, too. 💕

  • Just preordered a copy for myself and one for my son’s girlfriend (she’s starting her cookbook collection!). I can’t wait to receive mine. I was one of your many testers, and I regularly use your website in my meal planning, having happily made over 30 of your recipes! Thanks for sharing so many delicious and dependable ideas!

    • Hi Becky! Thank you so much for being a part of this – I’m so grateful for my recipe testers! ❤️

  • Hi Jenn! I ordered your cookbook last year – really looking forward to it! I made (seriously) 5 of your recipes last week – banana bread, chicken chili, chicken curry, turkey sausage meatballs, and smashed Parmesan potatoes – all came out great! You’re the best!

    • So happy you’re enjoying all the recipes, Carol – and thank you for your support with the book! 💕

  • My husband thinks your recipes are better than the local French restaurant! So, you win! Thank you, Jenn, and I’m hoping the cookbook can be released a little sooner!

    • Thank you, Susan! April 3rd is the release date but I believe the publisher will be offering a $.99 cent sample/sneak peek of the kindle version at some point if you want to try out some of the recipes before the release. 😊

  • Yay, Jen! I’m so excited for you! Your recipes are always on the “Best Seller” list in our house! Looking forward to receiving your cookbook in the mail and sitting down with a cup of tea and being inspired from cover to cover. The hardest part will be deciding what deliciousness to make first! Wishing you much success in this venture.

    • Thank you, Christine! 💕

Can’t wait to get your cookbook! Loved your video and I have to say..I do feel like “Wow I can’t believe I made this” whenever I make any of your recipes. My husband won’t order anything that I have made from your blog as he loves when I make it! Thanks for sharing your wonderful recipes and for making them easy to understand. I am so proud of anything I make from your blog.

Next, you should have your own cooking show! I would definitely watch it.

Foodnetwork…you need to give Jenn a show!!!!!!!

    • Thanks for your support, Kimberly!! 🙂

  • So happy to see your dream come to fruition! Your video is as ‘in touch’ with your audience as the Blog is. I, too, purchased the cookbook despite a pretty extensive collection. You are right, it is for the purpose of inspiration. Your newsletters, though, are my ‘reward’ when I’ve finished plowing through everything that requires my attention. Or, sometimes, I’m fresh out of dinner ideas and they are current to the season & right on the mark. Sometimes it takes a few weeks for me to get to them, but it is my pleasure and ALWAYS a source of inspiration. As it happens, I have some questions for you in the near future. The interaction you cultivate with your audience has led me to where, when I need to try something new, I think “I wonder what Jenn knows about this & if it can work???” You’ve carved a vitally important niche for health conscious, responsible home cooks that is becoming even more significant as the Food Network’s Newsletters are containing more and more recipes of less and less fundamental substance. I seldom open them any more!

    • What a lovely note, Fran. I so look forward to sitting down to my computer every morning to read all the comments and questions. I have the most wonderful community of readers! I hope the book becomes a much-used source of inspiration and new recipes for you. 💕

  • Can hardly wait for your cookbook to arrive. I know it will contain fabulous new recipes….as well “old” ones that I already have.

    • Hope you find lots of new favorites, Harriet! 💕

  • So fun to see your family! Can’t wait for the book!!!!!

  • I am so excited to receive your cookbook. I did pre-order your cookbook. Your recipes always are perfect. Thank you for making me look so good. Wishing you much success!!!

    • So sweet, Carol – thank you! I hope you enjoy the book! ❤️
