Sliced Baguette with Butter, Radishes & Sea Salt

Tested & Perfected Recipes

baguette with butter

Even if you’re ambivalent about radishes, which I’ll admit I am, you’ll love these simple French canapés. The combination of fresh baked bread, softened sweet butter, thinly sliced radishes and flaky sea salt is surprisingly delicious, especially with a crisp white wine.

Start by slicing the baguette into 1/4-inch slices, and then thinly slice the radishes.

Spread pats of the butter lavishly onto the bread.

Arrange the sliced radishes over top of the butter, and then sprinkle the canapés with a bit of sea salt and fresh chopped chives.

Serve and enjoy!

  • How far in advance would you suggest this can be made ahead? Three hours? Or should I make it right before? Thanks!

    • Hi Alissa, I worry the bread will stale quickly. I’d make it right before. Sorry!

  • The large & long white oriental raddishes would be a tasty option as well.

  • Try slipping a few arugula or watercress leaves between the butter and radish.

  • I’ve made this as a simple hors d’oeuvre for guests and served with a bowl of olives and a few cheese wedges. Definitely a crowd pleaser – especially for vegetarians/

  • I love this simple combination. Use a European style butter and artesian bread.

  • I tried this last month and it was delicious! Definitely reinvents radishes – saves them from just being sliced into salads. Don’t skimp on the chives.
