A baguette with butter sounds pretty basic, right? Sliced radishes will quickly elevate bread and butter to a lovely starter. Even if you’re ambivalent about radishes, which I’ll admit I am, you’ll love these simple French canapés. The combination of fresh-baked bread softened sweet butter, thinly sliced radishes, and flaky sea salt is surprisingly delicious, especially with a crisp white wine.

How to make a sliced baguette with butter, radishes & Sea Salt
Start by slicing the baguette into 1/4-inch slices, and then thinly slice the radishes.
Spread pats of the butter lavishly onto the bread.
Arrange the sliced radishes over top of the butter, and then sprinkle the canapés with a bit of sea salt and fresh chopped chives.
Serve and enjoy!

How far in advance would you suggest this can be made ahead? Three hours? Or should I make it right before? Thanks!
Hi Alissa, I worry the bread will stale quickly. I’d make it right before. Sorry!
Thank you dearly, Jenn, for compiling a list of these amazing looking French recipes- I cannot wait to try them all! Your recipe for this simple appetizer has long been one of my favorites- I could make a meal of them! Who knew that something so simple, could be so fantastic?
Thank you again,
Mindy
You cannot find an easier appetizer to put together than this! Had never heard of this combination before. Perfect for when I’m in a hurry (which is always).
The large & long white oriental raddishes would be a tasty option as well.
Try slipping a few arugula or watercress leaves between the butter and radish.
I’ve made this as a simple hors d’oeuvre for guests and served with a bowl of olives and a few cheese wedges. Definitely a crowd pleaser – especially for vegetarians/
I love this simple combination. Use a European style butter and artesian bread.
So simply, yet so delicious! Thank you for the idea.
This is my entry/review for the Boos Deluxe Cutting Board giveaway. I was super excited to make these for my family’s “Salad Saturday”. A simple cool recipe and great use of radishes!!!
I tried this last month and it was delicious! Definitely reinvents radishes – saves them from just being sliced into salads. Don’t skimp on the chives.
Love radishes and all the ingredients and looking forward to eating them altogether!
