My all-time favorite cookout condiment, this spicy relish is delicious slathered on hot dogs, burgers, sausages and more.

Inspired by the famous hot sauce served at Ted’s Hot Dogs, a beloved chain of charcoal broiled hot dog restaurants in Buffalo, NY, this spicy relish is my all-time favorite cookout condiment. It has nostalgic appeal for me, as I spent my childhood vacations visiting grandparents in Buffalo, and no visit was ever complete without a trip to Ted’s for a foot-long hot dog with the sauce. This version is not an exact copycat of Ted’s but it’s pretty close, and it happens to be the easiest thing in the world to make – just three ingredients and they all come from jars. Slather it on hot dogs, hamburgers, sausages, or pretty much anything in place of ketchup. For the full Ted’s experience, try to find Sahlen’s Original Smokehouse Hot Dogs (in my area, Wegmans carries them); they are the best!

  • I’ve loved Ted’s hot dog sauce for decades. I moved away from Buffalo, and it’s very expensive to order online. This recipe nailed it! I’ve been trying to do a copycat for years, but never came close. Thank you so much.
