Rainy day? Too cold outside? Indoor s’mores bring the classic summer favorite right into your kitchen.
When my kids were younger, our backyard firepit was the center of many summer get-togethers. The kids would run into the woods in search of the perfect marshmallow stick, then gather around the fire to toast their treasures. Of course, there were the inevitable mishaps—like the disappointment of a marshmallow slipping into the flames or the surprise of a dog swiping one right off a stick (the tears!). But s’mores don’t have to be limited to the outdoors or summertime. These indoor s’mores give you all the gooey, chocolatey goodness under the broiler—no campfire (or bug spray) required.
And speaking of s’mores, here are our chocolate Labs, Ollie and Gus, in the s’mores costumes I made for them one Halloween. By the looks on their faces, you can tell they’re thinking, “Why, Mom, why?”

What you’ll need to make indoor s’mores

step-by-step instructions
Step 1: Get set up. Place an oven rack in the top position and preheat the broiler. Line a baking sheet with foil, then lay out 12 graham cracker halves in a single layer. Place a marshmallow in the center of each cracker.

Step 2: Toast the marshmallows. Broil with the oven door slightly ajar for 15 to 30 seconds, until the tops are as toasty as you like. Keep a close eye—marshmallows can go from perfectly golden to burnt in a flash.

Step 3: Add the chocolate. Place a piece or two of chocolate on top of each toasted marshmallow, depending on how chocolatey you like your s’mores.

Step 4: Finish the s’mores. Top with the remaining graham cracker halves and gently press to smoosh everything together. Let them sit for a few minutes so the chocolate gets nice and melty.

Step 5: Dig in and enjoy!

Have you ever tried a Reese’s Peanut Cup instead of Hershey’s Chocolate? In a word; magic!
Jenn, I haven’t tried the recipe yet, but I will when we get our grandchildren together soon. I treasure your website, and it is the only place I visit for recipes. Every recipe of yours that I try is a winner and I’m so appreciative. I needed to comment on Ollie and Gus and their s’mores costumes! I’m a dog-lover (golden retriever), and your guys are SO handsome, and those costumes are perfect! Thanks for sharing!
Awww thank you, Maria! 💕
Oh Jenn you and your hunks of chocolate are hoots!!
I have 2 chunks of chocolate too- Otter(7) and Bruin(10) who are rolling their eyes at me too!
I’m a retired veterinarian and I’m putting the finishing touches on their “Hershey kisses” costumes right now for trick or treating at the nursing home!
Thank you for all of your recipes, cookbooks and good cheer— I’ve been with you since day one and I look forward to your emails and my family loves the recipes you provide for us!!
Happy Halloween 🎃!
PS:
Jenn, would you mind sharing the name of the English Lab breeder your boys came from?
We lost our oldest boy Guinness to brain cancer 3 months ago and are looking to add a third chocolate to our family…. and your fellas look so much like our Guinness did.🥲 Thanks again so much!
So happy you enjoy the recipes, Tarianne. And so very sorry about your Guinness. 💔 We got our boys from Lazy Lane Labradors—Jenny is lovely and they are the most wonderful dogs.
Love the pup’s Halloween costumes and will use this recipe when needed to calm the grands during cold weather days! Thanks!
OK….now I definitely am making this for my Halloween dessert. I keep all the ingredients in the house year round and I even indulged in the big square marshmallows! There is nothing as magical as this combination to satisfy all the cravings. I absolutely LOVE your doggoes! What a sweet idea. Their faces say it all! Thank you for making my Halloween day special!
Jennifer what are you doing to me? Why did you do this? The only thing that keeps me from s’mores is knowing it’s only a few months out of the year. Now bc of your brilliance I have to suffer 12 full months! This is TERRIBLE!
